Since the establishment of New China, our country's tunnel construction has made significant progress, achieving a remarkable transformation from a“tunnel weak country”to a“tunnel strong country.” As of 2022, China has had over sixty projects involving super large diameter shield tunnels. In order to promote the sustainable and high-quality development of super large diameter shield tunneling in our country, this article systematically reviews the development process of super large diameter shield tunnels in China and representative projects of super large diameter shield tunnels in our country. Additionally, it reflects on and analyzes aspects such as construction technology management, design technology, ecological environmental protection, safety, and intelligence for domestic super large diameter shield tunnels. Suggestions are proposed for the development of super large diameter shield tunnels in our country, with the aim of actively contributing to the promotion of their development. This study will provide reference for the design of the same type of tunnel.
